Spanish course for Spanish Teachers

We have been training Spanish teachers for more than 20 years. Our courses will help you to brush up your Spanish level but they will be focus on how to teach Spanish.

We offer Erasmus+ Spanish programs, CPD (Continuous Professional Development) courses and SKE (Subject Knowledge Enhancement) training.

SKE (Subject Knowledge Enhancement)

We’ve been training ITT (Initial Teacher Training) students since the beginning of the SKE scheme in 2014.

The Spanish Course are accredited as a Third Party SKE Supplier by the Department for Education. Therefore, our SKE courses are funded by the DfE funding as we are an SKE recognised provider.

Our SKE courses include:

Two home-stay weeks in Spain

The Spanish Course SKE courses are designed according to student’s needs and focus not only on the language but also on how to teach Spanish to UK students. Our main goal is that SKE students achieve at least a B1 level but we will also highlight the main problems British students face when learning Spanish.

Fernando Pérez Cos, the program leader, is an experience teacher and one of the authors of AS/A2 textbook ¡Ponte al Día! Therefore, he will be able to help you in both your teaching and language skills.

Students will be in small groups (maximum 5 people).

You will be accommodated at our home, sharing our family lifestyle. However, you will have your own bedroom with en-suite bathroom to enjoy all the privacy you require.

Santander Airport Transfer. Students will be picked up at Santander Airport (Direct Ryanair flights from London Stansted).

Ryanair flights to Santander will be paid in advance by the student but you will receive a bursary from the DfE that will cover flights and other expenses.

Students will follow our web-based courses. A textbook will guide you throughout the course and you will always have the support of our tutors who will correct the work published by you on the online forums.

SKE Funding

Our SKE (Subject Knowledge Enhancement) Spanish courses are funded by the Department for Education. You can get 100% funding of course fees plus a bursary for covering part of your own expenses.

However, The Spanish Course doesn’t get involved with requesting funding from NCTL.

Before applying to our SKE Spanish courses the applicant must have applied for and discussed the offer of a place on an ITT (Initial Teacher Training) programme to QTS (Qualified Teacher Status). The need for SKE should be identified by the ITT provider and not the trainee nor The Spanish Course.

Once you tell your ITT provider you have chosen The Spanish Course as your SKE provider, the ITT provider will contact The Spanish Course to discuss course fee’s prior to requesting funding from NCTL. The ITT provider is responsible for administering the funds.

Therefore, it is important that you contact your ITT provider regarding funding for The Spanish Course SKE courses.

Applying for an SKE Spanish course

We recommend you to follow these steps for applying to one of our Spanish SKE courses:

  • Please, write an email to fernando@thespanishcourse.com expressing your wish to apply for our SKE course. Please, feel free to ask any question regarding our courses.
  • Send us your ITT provider contact details.
  • Then we will arrange with your ITT provider the payment of your course fees and bursary.

    CPD Courses

We offer online courses, courses in Spain and blended courses for teachers who wish to improve their skills.

CPD courses are funded by Schools and Teaching School Alliances. You should contact your school to see what funding options are available.

We offer two types of courses and we’re flexible about dates and course content:

    • Week courses in Spain, which are designed according to teacher’s needs. Our courses range from complete beginners to advance level.
    • Online courses

In the near future, we will also be offering TSST (Teacher Subject Specialism Training) courses for teachers who are already teaching in schools.

    Erasmus+

Erasmus+ is a European Union programme until at least 2020 dedicated to support education and training, among other issues in Europe. Erasmus+ is not just for students but for people of all ages, including teachers and school administration staff.

Language teaching and learning is a key issue in the EU to eliminate barriers between and help to a mutual understanding of other countries and cultures.

The Spanish Course was awarded by The European Union and the British Government with the European Award for Languages in 2001 (now renamed as European Language Label) because of our innovative practices teaching Spanish.
